Tenable CEO, Amit Yoran, passes away

Amit Yoran, CEO of cybersecurity company, Tenable, passed away on January 3. Mr. Yoran had gone on medical leave last month after he was diagnosed with cancer, the company said in a statement.

Prior to joining Tenable, Mr. Yoran served as president of RSA Security between 2014 to 2016. Before this, he was the founding CEO of NetWitness (which was acquired by RSA Security) between 2006 to 2011.

Tenable went public in 2018 after a successful IPO, under Mr. Yoran’s leadership.

Mr. Yoran has held positions in the U.S. government as the National Cybersecurity Director for the Department of Homeland Security between 2003 to 2004, and as board member for the Center for Internet Security since 2019.

A month ago, he announced his departure from the company in a LinkedIn post saying, “As I take a brief pause to prioritize my health, I will stay as connected as I can while giving myself the space to heal fully. I am deeply grateful for each of you, not only for the dedication you bring to your work but for the sense of community we’ve built together.”

Meanwhile, CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond had been appointed co-CEOs. They will continue in these positions as the board looks for a permanent CEO, the company said.
