Reliance Jio announced that it had extended its 4G and 5G services to Siachen Glacier, known as the world’s highest battlefield, a day before the Army Day on January 15.
“With the launch of 5G services at Siachen Glacier, Reliance Jio has set a new benchmark in the telecom industry, marking a historic achievement in one of the planet’s most inhospitable environments,” said Reliance Jio in a statement.
The telecom operator said that it was the first to deploy 4G and 5G services in the world’s highest battlefield. Reliance Jio noted that it worked with Army Signallers of the Indian army in order to manage the logistics and airlift Jio equipment to the glacier in freezing weather conditions.
The company said it deployed plug-and-play pre-configured equipment at a forward post.
“Reliance Jio has been steadily expanding its network in the Ladakh region, prioritising forward posts along the borders. As the first operator to provide 4G services in these challenging terrains, Jio continues to empower communities and soldiers with unparalleled digital connectivity,” said Reliance Jio.
